Putin doesn’t want to start World War III because ‘West is too strong’

JD Vance is considered a strong candidate for Donald Trump's Vice-Presidential pick in the upcoming fall election.

Joe Biden has faced accusations of “sleepwalking into World War 3” from a close ally of his rival, Donald Trump. Ohio Senator JD Vance, who is seen as a potential running mate for Trump in the November Presidential election, has expressed concern that the risk of nuclear war is “higher than any point in my lifetime.” This concern arises amid growing unease among Washington Republicans over Biden’s decision to allow Ukraine to use Western-built weapons within Russia.

Kremlin-aligned blogger Evgeniy Poddubny recently claimed that HIMARS missiles were used to strike targets in the Belgorod Oblast, sharing photos to support his claim. These images have not been verified by Express.co.uk. Vance was responding to a post on X by David Sacks, co-founder of Craft Ventures, who remarked: “Never once during the Cold War would we have dreamed of striking Russia on its own soil, even through a proxy.” Sacks added, “I’ll take a ‘convicted felon’ over World War 3 any day,” referring to Trump’s recent court case.

Vance, 39, commented, “I just spoke to a friend I trust on what's going on in Russia. I think the risk of nuclear war is higher now than at any point in my lifetime. Biden is sleepwalking into World War 3.”

NATO foreign ministers convened in Prague on Friday to prepare for this summer’s leaders’ summit, with many nations likely to follow Washington’s lead. Following Biden’s decision to allow Ukraine to use American munitions to strike inside Russia to defend Kharkiv, numerous ministers from the Netherlands, Finland, Poland, and Germany expressed support, affirming Ukraine’s right to defend itself from Russian attacks.

NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg stated, “This is a matter of upholding international law - Ukraine’s right to self-defence. Russia has attacked Ukraine, which has the right to defend themselves. And that includes also attacking military legitimate targets inside Russia.”

Stoltenberg pointed out that Russia is currently launching attacks on Ukraine from Russian soil using artillery, missiles, and troops. The alliance, marking its 75th anniversary this year, will meet in Washington in July to reaffirm their support. Stoltenberg expects to announce that at least two-thirds of NATO members are meeting their commitment to spend 2% of their GDP on defense. “And, of course, it makes it very hard for Ukraine to defend themselves if they are not allowed to use advanced weapons to repel those attacks.”

Ukrainian officials have increased their calls for the US administration to allow their forces to defend themselves against attacks originating from Russian territory. Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, is just 20 kilometers (12 miles) from the Russian border. President Volodymyr Zelensky and other Ukrainian officials argue that the restriction has placed Ukrainian forces in an untenable position as Russia intensifies its attacks around Kharkiv.

Russia has been taking advantage of delays in US military aid and inadequate military production in Western Europe, which has slowed crucial deliveries to Ukraine’s battlefield.
