Ukraine's Zelenskyy urges world leaders to join Global Peace Summit

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Sunday called on global leaders to participate in the Global Peace Summit starting on June 15. He stressed that Russia is led by individuals who aim to normalize destruction and division, and no nation can combat such aggression alone.

In a post on X, Zelenskyy mentioned that Ukraine, in collaboration with Switzerland, is organizing the Summit. He stated, "For them, it is a pleasure to burn. We all know who we are dealing with. Russia is led by men who want to normalize burning lives, destroying cities and villages, dividing people, and erasing national borders through war. No nation can stop such war alone, unaided. World leaders' engagement is needed."

Zelenskyy highlighted Ukraine's extensive experience with Russian deceit in dialogue and negotiations. "That's why global efforts are necessary. The Global Peace Summit will include leaders whom Russia cannot deceive. Together with Switzerland, we are preparing for this Summit, starting June 15th, with more than eighty countries confirming their attendance," he added.

He urged world leaders to join the summit and demonstrate their commitment to advancing peace. "We continue to work with leaders, inviting them to join the Summit. I am appealing to leaders of the world who have not yet engaged in the global efforts of the Global Peace Summit—President Biden of the United States and President Xi of China. Please show your leadership in advancing real peace, not just a temporary pause in conflict

Zelenskyy pointed out the widespread suffering in Kharkiv due to regular attacks and emphasized that Russia is threatening nearly all its neighboring countries. He noted that Russia is the only state that has captured a nuclear power plant and is using it for radiation blackmail.

"Russia weaponizes everything, including hunger," he said. "We do not want the UN Charter to be burned, just like these books. And I hope you don't want that either. Please show your leadership in advancing real peace, not just a pause between strikes."

He concluded by stating that the collective efforts of the global community are the best guarantee that all commitments will be fulfilled.
