Russia, the aggressor state, has approximately 500,000 troops stationed in and around Ukraine, with plans to recruit an additional 200,000-300,000 soldiers. This information was disclosed by Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umierov in an interview with Reuters.
Umierov highlighted that Russia has concentrated these 500,000 troops near Ukraine's borders and is preparing to amass another 200,000-300,000 troops in the same region.
"Our primary military objective in the coming months is to maintain defensive lines and suppress the enemy, while simultaneously enhancing Ukraine's military capabilities in the air, at sea, and on land," he stated. Umierov also stressed Ukraine's commitment to reclaiming its entire territory within the internationally recognized 1991 borders, including the temporarily occupied Crimea.
Previously, Umierov mentioned that only half of the arms deliveries reach the Ukrainian military on time. However, the recent arrival of American military aid, particularly artillery shells, after a nearly six-month hiatus, enabled the Ukrainian Armed Forces to halt the Russian advance in the Kharkiv region.
On May 21, Nazar Voloshyn, spokesperson for the Khortytsia operational-strategic group of troops, announced that the Ukrainian military had managed to stabilize the situation in Vovchansk, a city in the northern part of the Kharkiv region.
