If russians were strong enough to conquer Ukraine, they would have already done it - Orban

Fears that Russia will attack any NATO member are unfounded, according to Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban. Speaking on Friday, May 24, Orban emphasized that the ongoing war in Ukraine, now in its third year, has exposed the limits of the Russian Federation's capabilities, as reported by Reuters.

Orban dismissed the notion that Russia, struggling to defeat Ukraine, could threaten the entire Western world. He argued that concerns about Russia's ability to attack any NATO member are "unfounded."

"The war in Ukraine, now in its third year, has highlighted Russia's military limitations. The Russian military is engaged in a serious and difficult conflict with the Ukrainians. If they had the strength to defeat Ukraine swiftly, they would have done so already," Orban stated.

He pointed out that NATO's military capabilities far surpass those of Ukraine, making it highly unlikely that Russia or any other country would dare to attack NATO. "The chances of that happening are extremely slim," he remarked. Orban suggested that referencing the Russian threat could be a precursor to deeper Western involvement in the war in Ukraine.

Previously, on May 8, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had invited Orban to the Peace Summit in Switzerland. Additionally, on April 21, Orban noted that Europe was on the brink of sending soldiers to Ukraine. On February 27, he declared that Hungary does not want to share a border with Russia again.
