Ukraine has received a restricted authorization from the United States administration for employing American weaponry in operations against Russia. However, this clearance does not extend to ATACMS ballistic missiles, as per reports from The Wall Street Journal, citing insider sources.
According to WSJ insiders, the new policy from the White House permits Ukraine to utilize artillery and M142 HIMARS rocket launchers exclusively for strikes on Russian soil.
Furthermore, Washington has stipulated that Kyiv may only target Russian military assets directly supporting their offensive in the northern Kharkiv Region, as reported by the Ukrainian News agency earlier today, on May 31.
While some Western media initially reported the undisclosed permission granted by the U.S. for Ukrainian strikes on Russian territory, it appears that the authorization is limited to the bordering areas of the Kharkiv Region, according to certain outlets.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy later confirmed the reception of this restricted authorization, affirming that Kyiv indeed has been granted permission for the controlled use of weaponry in operations against Russia.
